Ice on the Windshield

 wake up call

Hmmm…. It’s morning
Time for arousal
I mean arising
For this rascal

Drinking coffee and rum
I mean just java
Left the rum on the rim
Back in the cave

Morning kiss for my love
Bathroom the next stop
Always on the move
Half run; on a hop

To my desk; got to have music
“Light My Fire” begins my day
Blogstream with all the muse
And me with things to say

Time for a break
To town I go
A rat-killing, treak
Things to do

Back in the den
Chores all done
Talking to wife
About flying a kite

Called my dad
Conversation we had
Politics – naturally
Disagreements – probably

Ah music, got to have the beat
Blog – stream flowing strong
“tell me something good”; time to eat
eggs and bacon can’t be wrong

a posting on the stream
scanning all blogs
coffee with cream
helps the morning fog

afternoon haze
doesn’t faze
a wanderer’s poem
nice to be home

 Fragile - do not bend

music flows like wind thru trees
be still and you'll feel
the smoke and fire; of you and me
running just behind a big fall

thunder, lightning and rain
previews an uncloudy sky
of two as one... flying
far above the rattling din

so intertwined in a timeless capsule
a mere string of the all
perplexed but in wonder
of the onrushing dawn

it's majesty and beauty sweeping away
fragilities clinging to a starless night
bringing hope of another place
in the after behind our day

 Road to Redemption

searching for some magic in a hat
a mere song - not yet sung...
the phone with that certain ring
but only in a dream...

pinpoint light from stars
but that's all...
and not near enough
on this dark night...

for the road is winding
on this fantastic relay to redemption
that begs not for an ending..
but for continuation..

for the echo of our step
fades rapidly from the stage
and another page
awaits it's turn.....

I want to go back to the Good Old Days

I want to go back....

To gas stations - where the "Man with the Star" comes out and ask what you need, then fills up your tank, and gives you a glass for coming in - instead of computerized pumps that you have to "punch in" account numbers, and your mother's age, along with the number of inches in your shoe size, while at the same time standing on one foot, and reciting the Gettysburg Address, just to get the damn thing to work, which it does - sometimes.

Service departments that care about the customer and who are actually "Accountable" to do their job - instead of 19 year old "Managers," hiding in cyberspace, who take 48 minutes to come on line, after all the computer enhanced voices try to get you to talk to them.

To baseball players who drink and smoke but don't inject steroids and god knows what else in their super muscled and "punctured" bodies.

To baseball players who play the game mostly because they appreciate the opportunity to play a child's game while getting well paid for it - instead of business ceo's too busy on the phone, talking to their accountants, to sign autographs for kids.

To baseball players who after hitting a home run – “run the bases” instead – “of standing at the plate admiring their hit”.

To baseball pitchers who deserve to be in the Major Leagues instead - of minor league caliber pitchers serving up gopher balls to 120 lb shortstops - hitting 50 homers a year.

To automobiles that have a carburetor you can "adjust," and spark plugs that can be changed out in less than a day, "and" - without removing a fender.

To television where there are only 3 channels, but with better programs than the 488 we have today, and without the "filth."

To schools where kids mind the teachers, and parents discipline the kids if they don't.

To the Pledge of Allegiance, with "under god" in it.

To Presidents of the United States who served in the armed forces - instead of hiding out overseas or in the National Guard during wartime.

To Presidents of the United States who know how to salute.

To golfers who have to use every club in the bag, and who are great, because of shot making, instead of smashing it 400 yards and then chipping on the green.

 Summer to Fall

summer rounding the bend
headed for a fall
can you hear the ringing of winter's bell?
Or is it spring you smell

Star gazing while
strolling arm in arm
watching every minute fly
trying to understand the sky

sensing rather than knowing
what fate holds
carried along by the tide
the fun is in the ride

I'm glad - summer has a bend
for it is only natural to fall
and I do not worry about winters bell
for I have your smile on a warm spring day
