Opening my eyes I become awake.
You know the feeling.
It’s as if you’re laying doormat in your body.
Suddenly, but very calmly – you open your eyes and become aware of your surroundings, at least some of them.
The temperature is comfortable.
You feel neither hot nor cold – but just right!
That last thought reminds you of a fairytale – from your past, but declining your brain, and its invitation ‘to go there,’ - you instead, wonder about the time.
Go figure.
Then you notice a dream you had last night, it’s been drifting around in your head since you awoke, but now it’s beginning to mingle with your newfound consciousness; it was erotic in nature, that you’re sure of, but as to who was starring (in it) you have no clue, except of course – yourself.
Trying as hard as you can, you try to capture it before it disappears – which it does almost as you think the thought, and the next instant brings nothing but the smell of coffee brewing somewhere.
Your focus is suddenly on the window, remembering where you’re going, but of course, not where you are.
1937?
Why would one want to go anywhere other than home?
Where is home if not the present?
Why did you choose 1937, and furthermore, what do you know about 1937?
With its sometimes machine-gun action – the brain can overwhelm.
The window?
The window that was dark just seconds a go (or so it seems) is now bright with green, tree filled terrain, and a haunting hint of mountains to come.
Searching with eyes still edged with sleep, I’m reminded of a morning in Colorado just last year, but this morning, I see nothing to indicate where I might be.
However, I am very aware of where I am in my life.
Having safely reached my sixth decade; I am no further along than ever.
Still cozy with things material – while looking to answer long held questions, I feel a particular kinship with the unknown.
It’s then - I hear rustling from above.
The next second in time directs me - back to the window.
Something has caused me to look that way.
We are approaching a bend in the road, and on the other side, I have the hokey feeling that I’m sensing something rather than seeing it.
Then…. A loud knocking on our door.
Joyce: Don’t you think that ending is a little hokey itself?
Ray: Sure, but that’s what happened.
Joyce: Maybe you should change it anyway; you know you’re going to get hit with the ‘cliff-hanger’ thing again.
Ray: Of course, but it doesn’t matter, for that’s what really happened; what would you have me to do – make up something?
Joyce: this whole thing is made up.
Ray: what? The story - or life?
Joyce: Nope. I’m not going there this morning; do you want a cup of coffee?
Ray: I did smell coffee now didn’t I?
Joyce: so.. You smelled coffee; what’s so unusual about that?
Ray: Cause…. I smelled it before.
Joyce: I’ll take your word for it.
Ray: Shortly after that I heard ‘rustling’ – which was you waking up.
Joyce: Yeah, I remember now, I heard you in the chair ruminating about where you were in your life.
Ray: Really? I think I’ll take that coffee now.
Joyce: Why don’t you get the door - while I get the coffee?
Ray: I can do that; wonder who’s there anyway?
Joyce: Oh you can’t ever tell – now can you?
never mind me...I am waiting for the FedEx guy. My daily routine revolves around the FedEx guy and having to sign for something.
fedex guy knocking on the door?

The last cliff hangers of amy import to me were the ones at the Saturday morning flicks down town at the majestic "Majestic" ...in '48. On those same Glorious mornings I would see Billy Barney and It would be years before I would come to know that Billy Barney was Billy Barney's name. Now, again, many years later I find that I am someone that likes cliffhangers, not just those Saturday mornings. Keep 'em commin' and I for one will continue to keep commin'...Just so u know I like my cliff hangers very very "Cliffie"...."OH my God...what's next...what could It be" you know, that "I can't wait till next Saturday feelings".
how bout that for 'real change,' or 'change you can live with' or...
x'cuse me...ice is digressing a little here...
ice
in any event I will set out to accomplish said goal by first looking around for 'cliffie material'...
x'cuse me pop... i think someone spiked my morning oatmeal...

no I don't remember the show you're talking about but I do remember the "smoky cloud of home-grown" you spoke of.
do I remember that...oh yeah...
many thanks for the comment - cause it sent me on my own 'mental turn around'....
geez

You know "Cliffies" that gradual build up till finely ready to burst into a bang or not like to the point where the rollercoster has no where to go but down hill...or does it ..hum. "Cliffie" named after Clifford Reynolds of the famed "Burp then Belch" crowd of Belfast before the war....Hum, I guess that puts the issue of "The Cliffie" to rest. CU Saturday
Actually you made me laugh hard.
It was early morning and had no depth to me.
I usually tumble around and have some good feed back for you, today, I just wanted more! lol
This story reminds me of the serials I used to see at the movies during the Saturday matinees. They used to keep me in suspense for the entire weeks in between.

thanks for the comment =- I do appreciate your thought

r u serious? "Cliffie was named after Clifford Reynolds of the famed "Burp then Belch" crowd of Belfast before the war...
please read that last statement "out loud" and get back to me as soon as possible with a plausible explanation ... other than your oatmeal being spiked....
gee... the Cap'n talking about a 'smoky haze of home grown,' sending me back into my own time warp and you writing as if you've been in the Cap'n's stash...roflmao

Hope you are well. Just saw your comments over at Whit's. Interesting idea. Vote the bums out.....I also believe the odds are good that a Democrat will be elected and Obama will probably win.
When the primaries began I did extensive research of all the candidates. I was not impressed with Obama's record in the IL Senate and he does not have one in the US Senate. His fund raising skills were always his main asset.
I made a deal with Whit early on ...."If Obama wins and sticks to his promise (actually blackmail to the Republicans) to go with public financing I will vote for him. He abandoned that promise before the convention.
McCain has his failings but he was responsible for ending the "torture policy" when damn few Democrats were as vocal. He also is right about "pork barrel" spending....the pork barrel policy is why so many politicians of both parties abandon their core beliefs and vote for ridiculous budgets and other outrages...that's how Bush has gotten his way since the Democrats have been in power.
My take on it.
Both parties were responsible for the recent economic turmoil....too much deregulation by Republicans and a Fannie and Freddie totally run riot and protected by Democrats.
I say throw the bums out....but I can't vote Obama on principle....First time I ever voted Republican....who knew I would be a "disenfranchised Democrat"....
Unfortunately, this election has been really emotional for most....There has been vandalism of houses and cars with McCain signs locally. And the Texas caucuses were filled with fraud...in Obama's favor. At any rate I try not to talk politics on the stream because the emotion runs high here. But I couldn't resist letting you know where I stand.
PS I don't get my info from Fox News....I learned every thing I need to know about Obama in the archives of the Chicago Sun Times.
What I really am un-comfortable with is this 'notion' that is going around that if Obama loses we will have 'racial' problems galore in this country. That is so nuts. When Kerry lost we didn't have a problem...even when Gore (who I voted for) lost due to some questionable Supreme Court goings on -- we had no problem. This country is known for the 'peaceable transfer' of power....
if.... Obama loses and we have 'civil/racial problems' in the streets of this country I will puke.
anyway... Thanks for your input ... it is appreciated

Please just make up something that goes with BGE. Please?
Now... I've read all the comments about that blog but I don't know exactly what you are talking about when you refer to "BGE."
Of course I'll know just as soon as you 'gently' remind me.
As always - Thanks for the comment

On the post just before this one, the one called "clickety-clack" you kept noticing the intitials BGE on everything on the bus to 1937, on the door of your compartment, embroidered on the linens, stamped in blue on the fixtures... it got me curious, and when I didn't see it mentioned at all in your next installment I guess I got frustrated. But that's okay, because I followed it along where it went, and forgot about BGE until you mentioned it and then I had to go back to this post to find it... so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, are you?
